Bikita Minerals are daring to dream after a promising start to the Eastern Region Soccer League season in which they are fourth on the log standings just three points behind the log leaders Tenax after ten matches.
Bikita Minerals have gone for seven matches without a defeat and welfare manager Hardy Mabhugu believes this could be their year.
“This team is a source of pride and joy for the Bikita community, so we are doing our best to cheer up our community by giving them something to celebrate every weekend and hopefully something big at the end of the season,” Mabhugu said.
“We are not putting ourselves under pressure thinking much about the title but we are just letting the players enjoy the ride, enjoy the dream without any demands or conditions. We are just focusing on one match at a time as we want to build consistency.”
Mabhugu said the good relationship between the Bikita Minerals company and the surrounding communities has also played a part in the success of the team so far.
“You know in football the fans play a big role in motivating the players and also having that fear factor on the opponents. I would like to commend the communities around Bikita Minerals for their unwavering support. They come in numbers to support the team and some accompany the team for away matches. This has spurred the team to do well. As Bikita Minerals we cherish their support and will continue to strengthen our relationship.”
Bikita Minerals are on a good run of seven matches unbeaten in which they have won six times and drawn once.
Coach Tongai ‘Heydays’ Mugeji is enjoying the wave of optimism within the team and is looking forward to continue grinding positive results.
“These are really exciting times within the Bikita Minerals camp. Everyone is excited because of the results but we need to continue working hard so that we don’t drop the ball, ” Mugeji said.
“It’s really tight at the top so we don’t need to slip up, we need to maintain that touching distance of the log leaders. Our executive has been very supportive and our fans have been awesome, they are second to none and we will fight for them in each and every match.”
Goalkeeper First Gandisati has been in terrific form keeping clean sheets in the six victories and was only breached in the 2-2 draw against Masvingo United. They also have some exciting players in the form of attacking midfielder Tawanda ‘Mlenga’ Funye, striker Rhodeny ‘Bobo’ Muchena, box to box midfielder Benedict ‘Kaka’ Bera and the Jeke brothers Hillary and Frank who play as the twin centre backs.
Bikita Minerals are away to Ruwa at Chiremba stadium on Saturday hoping for another win.
