Chinhoyi Stars coach Richard Chunga says he is not expecting a hostile reception when he returns to Chegutu to face Chegutu Pirates at Pfupajena stadium in a Northern Region Soccer League match on Saturday.

After spending six years at Chegutu Pirates, Chunga was released earlier this year before finding new base at Chinhoyi Stars.

Chunga brags that he still commands a lot of respect among the bulk of the Chegutu Pirates fans because he gave his all for the club during his time there.

“I’m coming back home without any fear of reprisals because the people there respect me because of what I did for the club. I did my best during my tenure at the club, and they know that my commitment was never in doubt. Also they know that the decision to leave was not mine, but it was made by other people,” Chunga said.

Chunga said he is not out to prove a point against his former side but is going to Chegutu to collect maximum points.

“I’m not a person who is driven by grudges because as a coach you are bound to move at some stage. So the decision to relieve me of the duties at Pirates was a blessing in disguise because here in Chinhoyi am also loved as much as I’m loved in Chegutu. Coming to this match we are just treating it like any other because putting so much attention to it means other matches are less important. I would like the fans to come out in numbers and enjoy the match.”

“Of course I’m looking forward to a win especially after that win against MWOS, I want us to build from there. My advantage is that I coached a number of Chegutu Pirates players and I know something about the team and on the other hand they know little or nothing about Chinhoyi Stars. So I would want to use that to my advantage.”

Defender Newton Tembo who scored the winner against MWOS will once again be expected to lead from the back with the attacking duo Leeroy Karuru and Delroy Lingelelani expected to provide the goals.

The headline fixture of the weekend is however the top of the table clash between log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars U19. Ngezi Platinum Stars U19 are the only team still to drop points and are four points ahead of second placed Black Mambas who are still to concede a goal.
After two goalless draws in the opening fixtures, Mambas have turned on the heat in the last three matches making their their encounter against Ngezi Platinum Stars U19 a highly anticipated one. Ngezi Platinum Stars U19 have thrived on team work with the the likes of Kuda Mangena, Tinashe Mashaireni, Tinashe Mabvudzi weighing in with some goals while captain Aaron Dzangai has provided some stability. Black Mambas have the experienced striker Lista Ndlovu to bank on while long serving goalkeeper Innocent Mangezi provides some experience to the side that has brought in a number of youngsters this season.
