Harare City coach Joseph ‘Shabba’ Takaringofa believes the Northern Region Soccer League clash against inform Ngezi Platinum Stars U19 at Baobab stadium on Friday will be a test of his team’s pedigree.
Ngezi Platinum Stars U19 have started the season well winning the first two matches including a victory away to a strong Herentals U20 who are one of the favourites for the league title. Takaringofa said the win over Herentals U20 showed the strength of Klifton ‘Somalia’ Kadurira’s charges and his players should brace up for a tough challenge.
“Winning two matches in a row, including an away win to Herentals U20 shows that Ngezi Platinum Stars U19 are really a good side,” Takaringofa said.
“But these are the kind of matches that you also need to stand up to be counted. We use such matches to measure the character of players we have in our team. We haven’t started badly either even though we dropped points in the last match against a very good Black Mambas side. So we can’t wait to face Ngezi Platinum Stars U19.”
Even though they haven’t spelt out their targets, Harare City seems to be gunning for the league title judging by their recruitment, having a number of experienced players that includes the likes of Tawanda ‘Finger’Nyamandwe, Timothy January, Zvikomborero Bizeki, Amon Kambanje and Crybet Muvhuti in their squad.

“We are a developmental side, so the aim is for the youngsters to develop well and gain promotion into the senior team. We have a number of exciting youngsters some of whom are as young as 16 years old. We will make sure we help them develop gradually without exerting pressure on them.”
