Chinhoyi Stars forward Leeroy Karuru is optimistic that his side will turn the corner this season and fight for the 2023 Northern Region Soccer League championship title.

Karuru who was one of the best performers in the league last season believes they have learnt from their mistakes from last season and are really geared up for the challenge this year.

“I’m very much confident that 2023 is going to be our year. Personally I have set my own targets for the season but I also believe that as a team we are destined for a great season,” Karuru said.

“When I look back there are some matches that we dropped points when we were supposed to win. So with the experience that we got from that, we are going to do better this year. Also there is continuity within the team with most of the players that were there still around. We now have a better understanding of each other than during the last campaign.”

Chinhoyi Stars who finished the season on ninth position have retained most of the key players that includes Shingi Chikuse, Milton Tembo, Prince Kasunge, Kelvin Chimoyo and Brendon Matemai.

The Munyaradzi Charuza coached side beat MWOS 2-1 in a friendly match on Saturday and will take on Harare City on Sunday as they intensify their preparations for the forthcoming season which starts on 18 March.
