Veteran bodybuilder Nunurai ‘Shumba’ Masosonere says he is ready to defend his Marume Classic title on 1 October at the Zimbabwe College of Music in Harare.

Masosonere, a seasoned hulk who has won many accolades on the local scene said he is aiming to inspire a number of upcoming bodybuilders including the duo of Exsevior Dzvene and Ronald Jiya from his Family Fitness Gym stable.

“Of course I’m going to be there as the defending champion. But for me it’s now more than just winning the title. It’s also about developing the sport and uplifting the upcoming athletes. We want the sport to grow,” Masosonere said.

“For me just getting on to the stage and winning is not enough because I know there are a lot of bodybuilders who wants or wanted to be at the level that I reached. So I believe I also have an obligation to help them reach the same stage hence I’m also pushing some upcoming bodybuilders. With the right guidance and attitude most of these bodybuilders can realise their dreams.”

Masosonere will face competition from the past winners like 2018 title holder Gideon Teguru, Genius Gwara, Joseph Luquembo and Noah Dzvokora.

Dzvene who came second at the Mr Novice earlier this year is confident after his maiden show in March.

“Mr Novice was an eye opener for me and I learnt quite a lot during that contest. Now I’m good shape for the Marume Classic. Now it’s going to be tougher because seasoned bodybuilders are in there but all the same, I’m geared up for the challenge. I think I have gotten enough tips from my mentor Nunurai Masosonere,” Dzvene said.

His training partner Jiya who came out sixth at the Mr Novice is equally optimistic of doing at the Marume Classic.

Proprietor of the show Givemore Marume said he is looking to a bigger and better show than the past three editions.

“This is going to be a show with a difference. It’s going to be bigger and better than the previous editions. We are also going to have strengths wars and fitness challenges. There is going to be lots of excitement,” Marume said.
