Arthur ‘Tuts’ Tutani could write his own piece of history if he leads Simba Bhora to the Northern Region Soccer League championship title with a win over Commando Bullets at Wadzanai stadium on Saturday.
Simba Bhora carry a four point lead ahead of Herentals U20 going into the last two matches of the season and need just three points to clinch the title.
Tutani who has won the Northern Region Soccer League title with Sporting Lions and Mwana Africa before, will be looking at writing his own piece of history by joining the league of coaches who have won three Division One titles.
Currently Sheasham coach John Nyikadzino and Lloyd Mutasa of Green Fuel have three titles each but Tutani can eclipse them as he has two other gold medals as an assistant coach. He was assistant to the late Friday Phiri when they won the title with Monomotapa and assisted Nesbert ‘Yabo’ Saruchera in winning the title with Black Rhinos.
“It has been God from the beginning. He chose this profession for me and has been leading me and is going to finish off on Saturday with the coronation at Wadzanai stadium,” said Tutani.
“I’ve come a long way and it’s every coach’s wish to win accolades and I thank God for this. I would also like to thank the management of the team for their support, they made it possible for us to be where we are right now and for people to talk about my history.
“I also want to thank my fellow coaches for their support as well as the players who do the work on the field of play. I won’t forget the fans, they have been very fantastic. They have always been with us whether we are in Shamva or away. I urge them to come in numbers on Saturday to enjoy the fruits of their efforts,” Tutani added.
“It has been all about team work at Simba Bhora and we are also looking forward to team work again on Saturday to finish off the job. Commando Bullets are a strong team, they are no pushovers so we have to be at our best. We are taking this game seriously so we are preparing hard. Remember they beat us in the reverse fixture so this time stakes are high because a win for us means we are the champions.”
Simba Bhora hit top form in July and went on to leapfrog Herentals U20 into first position in August with crucial results drawing away to Golden Eagles and taking three points away from Herentals U20 in a 2-1 win at home.
Tutani claimed two M& J Consultants coach of the month awards in the past two months while his players Simba Chinani and Tinashe Balakasi won the Breakfront Car Hire Player of the Month for July and August respectively as Simba Bhora gained ground from their rivals Herentals U20 and Golden Eagles.
